AP School Honor Roll 20244

The College Board recently announced that Plymouth South High School has been named to the 2024 Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning SILVER distinction.   PSHS was a 2023 Honor Roll award winner at the bronze level, but due to the incredible efforts by students and staff they have moved to SILVER status.

The AP School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs are delivering results for students while broadening access.  Plymouth South has no prerequisites for students entering AP programming so it is truly “AP for All.”  Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness.

PSHS had 52% of seniors who took at least one AP Exam during high school,  39% of seniors scoring a 3 or higher on at least one AP Exam, and 5% of seniors who took five or more AP Exams!

Plymouth South has worked hard over the years to develop an AP culture in regards to increased number of courses and opportunities for our students. Thanks to the efforts and buy-in from our staff, we are able to achieve these types of goals.

“AP gives students an opportunity to engage with college-level work, to earn college credit and placement, and to potentially boost their grade point averages,” said Trevor Packer, head of the AP program. “The schools that have earned this distinction are proof that it is possible to expand access to these college-level courses and still drive strong performance – they represent the best of AP.”

Plymouth South High School is a comprehensive high school that believes in preparing students in life beyond high school.  We offer 20 AP courses annually as well as virtual AP opportunities.  According to Principal Fry, “We aspire to blend the academic and technical components into the student’s education that will prepare them as they graduate from PSHS. The students, counselors, and teachers are the real leaders and reasons for this success that has only grown at PSHS. We are proud that students can excel in the technical studies program, but also participate in AP courses.  This exemplifies a true college and career readiness approach to high school education.”

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college, careers, and life beyond high school.
